In May of 1975, Father Lou Nollette began his priestly journey when he celebrated his first Mass
at St. Mary's Church in his hometown of Nenzel, NE.
Father Nollette grew up in St. Mary's Parish, and it was there that he was baptized,
received his First Holy Communion, and was Confirmed.
It is fitting then, that on Sunday, May 28, 2000, Father Lou Nollette will return to St. Mary's in Nenzel to celebrate his 25th anniversary in the priesthood, surrounded by his family, parishioners, and friends. The celebration will begin with a 4 PM (MDT)Mass of Thanksgiving, to be followed by a dinner in the parish hall, and a dance at the Nenzel Community Center.
Father Nollette, 51, spoke of Nenzel, population eight, in the April 7th issue of the
West Nebraska Register, saying, "Home is a special place in my life and I want to acknowledge that.
Half of its history has been part of my life."
Father Nollette's Silver Jubilee announcements feature the same cover that was used on his
ordination announcements. Both show a drawing of a windmill, a familiar
symbol of the Nebraska Sandhills, as well as of his priesthood. Father Lou chose this symbol
because, in his own words, "Water is Life-giving. Baptismal waters initiate one into the life
of Christ. Ordination into Priesthood is a response to the Baptismal Life." Although his duties
over the past 25 years have taken him to other parts of the Nebraska, and to points around the globe,
it's clear that
his roots are in western Nebraska and that he is happy to be serving near his family in the
Sandhills---both of which are so dear to his heart.
The people of the All Saints Parish communities in Mullen, Brownlee, Thedford, and Hyannis join
the Nenzel St. Mary's parishioners, as well as the Nollette family, in proudly congratulating
our own Father Lou at this joyous time in his life as a priest.
It is a special addition to the Jubilee 2000 year to have Father Lou celebrating his own "Jubilee 25", and we hope that God will shower him with many blessings and that his future will be one of continued fulfillment in the priesthood.
